1-Day Coding Class: December (12/29)

December 29 @ 9:30 am - 3:00 pm

FREE for first time attendees!

Does your child love technology or gaming? Why not take advantage of the time off school to learn coding?

In this month’s 1-day Coding Class, kids ages 5-8 and 9-12 will learn coding fundamentals in small groups organized by age and skill level (10 kids max). No experience? No problem! Our instructors are experts at teaching tech to balance fun and education.

Choose from Two Exciting Sessions

Each session includes 2 hours of small group, instructor-led coding lessons plus 30 minutes for students to present their projects to family.

  • 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM (ages 5-8)
  • 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM (ages 9-12)

Session Content

  • Morning Scratch – 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM (with Nick)

Kids age 5-8 will start the day using MIT’s “Scratch” coding language to complete our “Christmas Dropper” project. For this project, students will build a dropper game using holiday-themed artwork. Using “Clones,” they’ll learn how a single line of code can be used to control multiple objects. Students will program the game to make their character move left and right, avoid snowball obstacles, and catch presents to earn points.

Perfect for young kids and newcomers hoping to build a useful passion, this event is based on Tokyo Coding Club’s Scratch Foundations 1B class curriculum running January to March.

  • Afternoon Scratch – 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM (with Nick)

Kids aged 9-12 will spend the afternoon diving into MIT’s “Scratch” coding platform to complete TCC’s festive “Santa’s Sleigh” project. In this session, students will create a flying present delivery game featuring holiday-themed art and animations. Buildings will automatically generate below Santa’s sleigh, and it’s up to the players to program Santa to deliver presents accurately and ensure Christmas is a success!

This project introduces the concept of “Blocks” in Scratch. Students will learn how to combine code blocks for seamless execution without needing to refresh the screen—a powerful skill for more complex coding tasks.

Ideal for kids age 9-12 looking to build deeper coding knowledge, this session is inspired by our Scratch Level 2B curriculum, scheduled for January to March. Beginners welcome!
