1-Day Coding Class: January (1/19)

Start the new year off strong by learning a new skill – coding!

Join this month’s 1-day Coding Class and code your own game in small groups (10 kids max) organized by age and skill level! With a morning session for kids age 5-8 and an afternoon session for kids age 9-12, students will work directly with our coding instructors to see how fun and approachable coding really is.

Session Times

Each session includes 2 hours of small group, instructor-led coding lessons plus 30 minutes for students to present their projects to family.

  • 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM (ages 5-8) – “Space Chase Game Workshop”
  • 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM (ages 9-12) – “Space Collector Game Workshop”

Session Details

Morning – 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM (with Nick) – ages 5-8

Space Chase Game Workshop: Introduce your child to the world of coding with our interactive “Space Chase” game-building workshop! In this session, kids will create a fun space-themed game where players collect stars while avoiding a zippy spaceship.

What Your Child Will Learn:

  • Block-Based Coding: Learn the basics of Scratch’s drag-and-drop coding system.
  • Logical Thinking: Understand how to use simple logic to make characters move, score points, and avoid obstacles.
  • Creativity in Game Design: Build a personalized game with your own unique design.

Drawn from our Scratch Foundations 1B class, this beginner-friendly workshop is perfect for young learners and encourages creativity while building essential coding skills.

Afternoon – 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM (with Nick) – ages 9-12

Space Collector Game Workshop: Learn to build your very own space-themed game in Scratch in an exciting, hands-on coding workshop! In this session, participants will code and design “Space Collector”, a fun and challenging game where players collect coins while dodging aliens in a galactic adventure.

What Your Child Will Learn:

  • Variables: Understand how to track scores and high scores in a game.
  • Modulus Operation: Learn how to trigger events like spawning aliens every 5 coins collected.
  • Creative Problem Solving: Learn game mechanics, creativity, and problem-solving skills!

Aligned with our Scratch Level 2 class, this engaging workshop is open to children with and without coding experience and will inspire young minds to explore the endless possibilities of coding.
